United Way for Southeastern Michigan’s Run United team is a group of runners, walkers and volunteers who put their feet to the pavement to better their communities. The team participates in the Detroit Free Press Marathon every October in Detroit, as well as various other events. Our Run United team works to raise funds to support our work to help households become stable and ensure children can thrive.
Members of our team have access to amazing benefits, including invitations to exclusive running events, race-weekend benefits during the Detroit Free Press Marathon, and discounts and giveaways from our friends at RUNdetroit.
When you Run United, you’re joining a team of runners and walkers who care about our community.
As of July 2020, the Detroit Free Press Marathon was transitioned to a virtual race. Run United team members are still welcome to participate, and United Way remains a charity partner of the race.
Additionally, we invite runners and walkers of all abilities to join us for our first-ever Run United Virtual Marathon!
Starting Sept. 16 through Oct. 17, virtual marathon participants will log at least 25 miles on their own running or walking. Then, we’ll all complete the final 1.2 miles together with a virtual “race” on Oct. 18.
Funds raised through the Run United Virtual Marathon will go to support efforts to close the digital divide for Detroit students, providing them with laptops, internet access and other technology supports.
