Before the COVID-19 outbreak hit Southeastern Michigan, nearly half of the families in our region were already struggling to meet their basic needs. Now, the problem has grown.

Virtual Volunteering

The impacts of the COVID-19 crisis have left many children, individuals and families without access to crucial supports. From homework help for students to a friendly listening ear for older adults, you can give back from the comfort of your home by becoming a virtual volunteer. All you need is a computer, a phone and the desire to help to start making a difference in the lives of others.

Remote Volunteering

United Way volunteers can also give back without using technology. Create care packages for people in need or participate in other opportunities from your home or office.

In-Person Volunteering

There are still plenty of ways to safely give back in your community. Many of our partners have worked hard to put safety measures and distancing policies in place to allow volunteers to come in and do the important work they’ve always done.

Donations and Drives

Families that were already struggling to meet their basic needs have been hit hardest by this pandemic. These families rely on help from homeless shelters, food pantries and child care facilities. Staying open during COVID-19 is costly as organizations need personal protection equipment and cleaning supplies. By donating items or hosting a drive, you can help ensure these places stay open to support families during this difficult time.
